Anyone looking for a driving itinerary in central Sardinia often starts on the coasts and ends up cutting the island on the diagonal, with too many hours on the road and few real pauses. Abbasanta sits at the point where the SS 131 becomes a choice, not a duty: from here you can do nuraghi, lake and sea in the same stay, and come back to sleep in a hotel halfway between Cagliari and Sassari. Around it open Lake Omodeo, the woods of Montiferru, the park of San Leonardo de Siete Fuentes. Oristano is under thirty minutes; Cagliari, Orosei and Alghero remain about an hour away. The centre is not a compromise: it is the cleanest way to see more than one Sardinia without living in the car.
The SS 131 exit towards the SP 15 takes the noise of the main road away and leaves the hotel inside the garden. Anyone arriving from the south or the north no longer has to “pick a coast”: one day towards the nuraghi, one day towards the Sinis, an evening at Da Samu restaurant or at Da Samu pizzeria, and leave again the next morning. Breakfast is in the fireplace room; in summer there is the seasonal pool; parking is free and Wi-Fi covers the building.
If you use the island as a crossing, the Comfort room is meant for that transit night. If you are building a longer itinerary, the Superior and the Superior with a whirlpool pool on the patio remain, with heated water and chromotherapy. In both cases you sleep in the same garden, without going upstairs and without hunting another address every evening.
The Guilcer and the Barigadu are not a theme park. They are countryside, cork woods and secondary roads. The new 2019 hotel sits on the edge of that countryside, not in a historic centre you have to cross with suitcases.
Guests who arrive for work use the same exit as holiday guests: that is the point. Abbasanta does not split the two publics; it keeps them on the same junction and in the same restaurant.
The most natural day from Abbasanta is still the one towards the Guilcer monuments. Nuraghe Losa rises in the countryside between Abbasanta and Paulilatino: tower and bastions are still easy to read, and the visit is compact enough to leave the afternoon free. A few minutes away, the Santa Cristina well drops towards the water on a stair of precise geometry; around it remain the village and the rural church. No invented opening hours: you ask on site, you go in, you walk.
If light remains after the two sites, Lake Omodeo and the Santa Chiara dam close the loop without adding another hour of driving. It is a freshwater landscape, not a beach: useful because it breaks the idea that the centre is only dry countryside. You return to the hotel for lunch or for the evening, depending on how long you wanted to stay on the paths.

It is the stretch of itinerary that still holds in the shoulder season, when the sea is less central and the inland shows its own pace.

If the group is tired after Losa, Santa Cristina can slip to the next day. Two nights in Abbasanta is often smarter than compressing everything into eight hours.
The next day, or the same day if you started early, you drop towards Oristano. Under thirty minutes and you are in town; from there the Sinis peninsula opens San Giovanni di Sinis, Is Arutas beach and Torregrande. It is not an agency list: it is the nearest coast for anyone sleeping in Abbasanta, reachable without crossing half the island.
You can do only the sea, or keep Oristano as a pause between a site and a beach. The advantage of starting from the centre is coming back before the light falls, without the queue of those returning from Alghero or Cagliari. The cork-oak garden, at that point, is the opposite of the main road: patio, quiet, and if it is the season the pool.
With more days you can also open the Barigadu and Montiferru, or a visit to San Leonardo de Siete Fuentes. The itinerary does not have to close everything: it has to give an order. Abbasanta holds the order because every direction starts again from the same exit.
The Sinis deserves a full day if the sea is the reason for the trip. If it is an extra, you do Torregrande or a stretch of coast and come back before evening drops on the main road.
In winter the sea gives way to Montiferru and the springs of San Leonardo. The itinerary stays valid: only the clothing changes.
